Modern Fairy Tale : A-Life and Netlogo

The Ideal Scenario:
In an attempt to increase public awareness and education, this program would track genetic mutation amidst the current homo sapien gene pool - be it the rise in zombified persons, LPV (lupin parvovirus), sanguinarians,or psychokinesis.  It would be featured in a large installation, akin to those in natural history museums, on a large screen in the middle of the exhibit.  The interactive display would allow visitors to manipulate various parameters - infection/mutation rate, population size, behavioural patterns, and so on - before running the simulation.
The exhibit would also include other supporting materials such as recordings, personal interviews, anatomical studies, and the like.

Purpose:
The blending of rational research methods and the occult is a very old practice, and I would like to make my own contribution to its rich history. I've always enjoyed discovering and experiencing new things, and I would like the exhibition to inspire others to hold onto their childlike fascination with the curious.  For the non-believers: The purpose of this A-Life simulation is first and foremost a social commentary, and perhaps satire.

NetLogo

I played around with netlogo!
The model of choice was the Virus! which "simulates the transmission and perpetuation of a virus within a human population! The program initially had only three states for the humans: healthy and susceptible to infection as green, infected as red, and humans that have grown immune in gray.  I added a fourth state! In my program, a human can become a carrier - someone that has become infectious while exhibiting no signs of infection as magenta.

Enjoy!

Up to chance

Time to begin generating ideas...

First thoughts were a series of aquascapes, the elements of which would be chosen at random by rolling dice or some such.  However, I'm not sure if I can acquire all the supplies in time and affordably.

Most low cost option would be to work with materials already at my disposal: paper, pastels, colored pencils, book pages, rubber cement...and the like.

So..create a series of drawings - maybe circles - quickly sketched during a few games of 7Wonders.  Colors and number of circles based on the each category of victory points for each player. Scroll to about 14 minutes in..

Shut Up & Sit Down, Episode 4 from ShutUpShow on Vimeo.

Non-newtonian fluids and sound.  Create a series of different colors and audio tracks..Find ways to generate various iterations..uv lights, different styles of music, interactive realtime sound capture...so many possibilities! Woo! We can find more ways to leave this up to chance...

Sarah Spofford and I would love to pursue this idea together!
